on the 31st may our hero, joe stains, lost his fight with the nasty 'tuna monster' a rather significant day for another reason but more about that in another post...

joe's family have declared today as cheeseburger day...

so what does any right minded dog do on a grotty day when they are a bit far away to grab a burger...

We are ok!! but New Zealand is small and something this big affects us all. Christchurch is being described as an alien landscape after the quake and that the city's fear is palpable. These people have been living with daily aftershocks for 5 months! This is one hell of a final blow to what is already a fragile city. Despite the tales of bravery and courage Christchurch is a picture of heartbreaking despair, B & C have ties to the City, having first meet there, B lived there for 5 years and went to University there. And it is has only been one day. The people of Christchurch have an enormous recovery - which they're already gone through once - still ahead of them...

we know we've been slack but we've been away...

after a panic start (the xmas tree fell over, but all survived)...

we were on the road, doyles a window hogger

he provides the entertainment with his funny faces arf arf

i'm the co-pilot, b & c can't believe that i just lie here all the way...

after 4 hours on the road we hit our northern home (thanks L&L)

we adore it here...

i mean you would have to be crazy not to!

we spend the days romping in the paddocks...

they feasted on fresh farm eggs, homemade pesto and hot chili sauce, cos L&L spoiled them fur sure!

and cos it was their 8th wedding anniversary they opened precious...

the bottle of wine they have been saving for 7 years...

they savoured their wine (c's being silly here cos b says he always manages to get his feet in the pics arf arf arf)

while we played in the pool...

doyle likes to play submarines...

and comes out looking like this arf arf

the pics dont show how hot it was...

our cooling collars saved the day...

the air constantly carried so many great smells, all we could do was smile...

unfortunately the time went too fast

last romps were had

you sure we can't stay...

we sadly packed up all our bits...

and hit the road...

thru the tunnel... back to auckland

back home...

where the only casualty was b & c's pardon me's, they had been slugged @#$%! we hope the chilli plant's slugged them back!!!

favourite spots were reclaimed...

exhausted but elated.

ok so you are all probably wondering what the heck this all has to do with mustard... well we are keen as mustard to return to our most favourite place, the acorn cottage in ohaewai... it's paradise! b & c love it cos there are no distractions or technology that gobbles their time (that's why we have only just loaded the pics on last weeks post), cos b just lost her tether with internet tethering...

they've been having lazy meals like fush and chips, not that we really mind...

it's SO hot and furry humid, its not that pleasant all we can do is pant

and we've found bags turning up… should we be worried?

and we've seen the chilly bin being cleaned...

we've spent nights alone with only the radio keeping us company...

while they are out having fun seeing big famous bands...

they say they have to be festive… guys really the last gig of the gorillas world tour over a night with us?

even if american hip-hop act de la soul were playing...

even with paul simonon and mick jones of the clash playing...

apparently they just had to see damon albarn, the ringleader, chief wrangler, the musical brain behind the gorillaz's escape to plastic beach tour

so what if bobby womack was playing too

and who even knows bootie brown...

apparently the lebanese national orchestra for oriental arabic music were there with bashy and kano... huh?

seems even the six-piece hip-hop brass band the hypnotic brass ensemble were there... guys was there anyone not play'n at this gig?

spose if it made them smile, moll and i can grin and bear it...

moll did'ya know the pohutakawa is known as new zealand's christmas tree...

and central otago cherries are a nz xmas treat... but they gotta be from central otago

but they had to put it on the table cos of you and it's a false one which is never the same...

nope it's cos you manage to get into everything and they don't trust ya

they even have to have a special ornament tree to put the breakables on...

like the birds and the chain... neil and niki have given b special decorations for years now

i'll pretend im not too interested in those pressies all the way from america...

oh maybe a quick peek, woof hoo to the paper

b & c's wee niece taylor obviously thought this pressie was too good to send to b cos she's labelled it to herself arf arf

and there's more pressies from niki and neil... quite the stash there guys... some were not wrapped... c thought this rather funny cos b is a bit of a pressie peeker!!

we were able to hang the unwrapped ones like this special decoration from nashville that c knew all about, he's been there in his muso days!

neil & niki always manage to find the best cards and wrapping paper...

and there were special foodibles with a wee cherry on the top, not for dogs b says... what you mean not for dogs b?
they look rather yummy... do you think niki and neil made them?

and a knitted gully duff also with cherrys on top, b wonders whether niki made this herself... gully duffs are special in b's family

b's grandmama's dad (niki's grandpapa) ran a gold claim on the coast and every xmas dick bell would make christmas puds for the miners in the gully, that's why they are called gully duffs and it's tradition that only the man in the family make them... c has yet to rise to the challenge arf arf!

well this post has certainly made me quite cheery... loves and licks to you all!

oh and our friends phantom, thunder and ciara sent us this furry cool card, woof hooooos, we thinks they look pretty dam jolly!

a lemon thursday and a bit of a bitter effort

the hunt for lemon took us first to the obvious…

bodi's lemon tree...

it has never had a lemon yet but we have noted it has started to get some flowers... paws crossed b & c will get to have a bodi lemon soon...

while doyle was checking the perimeter and the state of our yard, oi there's a few lemon coloured leaves here guys, i chased flies...

leading me to discover this lone lemon (and fly) on our other lemon tree...

see it big boy?... you gotta be naughty and climb up on the railing... just don't let b & c see you cos they will go spastic...

a salmon thursday and a very important task

we went on a very important adventure, through the tunnel with its salmon coloured lights...

on the motorway north, bit dry aint it guys, the landscape in parts looks almost salmon in colour...

we travelled for an hour and then we were there, you see b has spent like ages helping this restaurant rebrand themselves she even designed this sign...

the restaurant is set on a vineyard in matakana www.plumerestaurant.co.nz

and the owners clyde and farida had invited us to come try out the foodibles...

but first we went for a walk, b & c thought it might tire us out, like if!

we even had a special gazebo to dine in...

we settled in and put on our good manners faces cos it was all rather flash...

the menu, which b did too, was full of so many nommy foodibles b & c struggled to decide...

somehow it didnt seem right not to order the salmon carpaccio served with scallops, lime, herbs and extra virgin olive oil...

it was gooooood!...

then they had the rillette of pork and duck with roasted scallops, mustard, fruit and baby gherkins...

hey a rawhide bone doesn't cut it guys...

the salmon was so fresh it just melted in your mouth...we even saw the chef picking all the herbs for it...

b & c were quite taken with the rillette too, the roasted spinach & pomegrannate with the balsamic reduction was a taste revelation...

and then we smelt it before we saw it...

farida, the owners, very own special chicken curry with the most fabulous spiced basmati rice we've ever had...

hey doyle i think they've forgotten about us, oi guys down here...

full, b & c where not gonna stop they squeezed in a pick-me-up espresso genoise layered with homemade mascarpone and finished with zabaione... crickey!

after 2 fabulous hours it was time to head home...

i'm a bit stonkered now moll, i can feel a major snooze coming on... moll you hear me?...

a restaurant called movida, apparently it was a bit of a golden moment where they both discovered their love of tapas

with all the goings on she still came up trumps...

it matches my pirate chicken see... well b's parents, niki and neil, were here staying with us the whole weekend...

they shopped in flash git shops...

and they went to a flash git restaurant to celebrate neil's birthday...

where they ate yummy foodibles... and saw a collection of 1930's glass that inspired b to look for more stuff to clutter our home with arf arf!

and you know what!... she found some... sheesh! beginnings of a new collection b??

and while they were out feasting, we were left home on our lonesome with just a rawhide bone to chew on... and a bed to muck up, doyle are they are sharing our bed... yep moll think of it like camping... one for all and all for one...

but we did get to go to the local french cafe for brunch... and bacon...

and cos its french it kinda passes for red white and blue - oui? check out niki's flash new moscots... neil's too busy checking me out under the table arf arf...
