a blue and yellow thursday

so it seems this week we are going to prat on about somewhere i don't even know... great, infact the last time i heard the word dunedin i ended up here... incarcarated...

ok i admit i am looking rather excited arf arf. so why are we doing dunedin b? "cos blue and yellow are the colours of otago doyle"...

spose thats fair then. b said dunedin was first settled by the scots in 1848 and it boomed with the discovery of gold making it a pretty rich and busy place...

it has a population of around 120,000 - two of whom are b's mom and dad...

apparently dunedin is one of the best preserved victorian and edwardian cities in the southern hemisphere, earning it the cudos of being new zealand's architectural heritage capital. highlight buildings would be the otago university which is new zealand's first university it is also where b studied design... she says she's an old girl... she sure is arf arf arf...

you cant really refer to duno's architecture without mentioning the dunedin railway station... it has the coolest stained glass windows featuring lots of blue and yellow of course...

and blue and yellow mosaic floors...

they reckon it's the most photographed building in NZ and it's where the tairei gorge excursion train is based... yes you guessed it, that is also blue and yellow...

dunedin is often dubbed 'rugby city' and is home to the highlanders...

their home grounds, the famous carisbrook, is renowned for its unrivalled crowd atmosphere... mmmmm... while we are on the subject of atmosphere we can't forget the students can we... that's right folks, dunedin is a student town and during the varsity year the students run wild... they call it culture...

yep pretty wild eh and note that our cop cars are also blue and yellow! the students drink alot of the local beer produced by the speights brewery... pride of the south they reckon...

and these studious individuals live in student flats like this... true! they are fiercely proud of their home making skills...

b's flat when she was a student in dunedin was pretty cool, it was up on a hill away from studentland and yes even the street signs are blue and yellow

dunedin is famous for its royal albatross colony and is also home to the world's rarest penguin, the yellow-eyed penguin or ‘hoiho’...

it is home to the famous cheese roll... oh and b wanted me to point out these are not cooked yet apparently they get toasted and if you click on the words cheese roll you will go to a link to some old recipes...

and the sublimely tasty jimmy's pie - b & c just hate that they can't get them up in auckland they reckon they are the best pie in the world, luckily b's dad puts them out of their misery and brings them some when he comes to stay...

ok b, that's enough, i'm thinking you could prattle on forever, sure dunedin seems like a pretty sweet place but i doubt it's as sweet as my blue and yellow chukky doughnut... finally it's all about me... woof

next week blue wants to play red... oooo i feel a song coming on...

a gold thursday

gold... mmmm tricky, should it be old gold or pale gold like some of my mates at the dog park...

or is it metallic gold or vegas gold... fact: b & c got married in vegas, they stayed at the golden nugget... does that count?

or maybe it's bright gold, yellow gold like my duck stuffie...

or honey gold like my favourite stuffie...

and is there a message... is it tales of greed and gold digging like in
Aesop's The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs...

or is it fool's gold... the greedy dog in Aesop's The Dog and the Shadow was a fool

aw b, it's all too confusing... i think i will just go and guard my stash cos it is "straight up gold" (urban dictionary: A term to express an appreciation of high quality!)

blue's next true colour is blue and yellow together... hey b... isn't that green??
"no doyle it's a symbol of pride"
... huh?

a mauve thursday

at a loss for mauve ideas, b & c ignored the problem (and the wierd mauve stake obviously), and started getting this years vege garden going...

left to my own devices and after a good sniff around, i have come to the conclusion that my garden should be classified as code mauve... translated... a furry dangerous situation...

"spring is sprung, the grass is riz, so I wonder where the 'poison' iz?"...

hey b... what you planting? beans, carrots, capsicums (dilated pupils, tremors, and heart arrhythmias), chilis, heirloom tomatoes (hypersalivation, inappetence, severe gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, drowsiness, CNS depression, confusion, behavioral change, weakness, dilated pupils, slow heart rate), cucumbers, eggplant (abdominal pain, convulsions, difficulty breathing, diarreah, vomiting, convulsions, weakness, incoordination, collapse)

any nice flowers in the garden at the moment b? we've got the last of the daffodils (vomiting, salvation, diarrhea; large ingestions cause convulsions, low blood pressure, tremors and cardiac arrhythmias. bulbs are the most poisonous part), and some nice lavender...

and wisteria (vomiting (sometimes with blood), diarrhea, depression)

oh... and a lovely mauve hibiscus (vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, anorexia)

we just planted some cornflowers too...

and echinops...

and we will sow some white and green echinacea, black hollyhock and phacelia soon...

while on my operation mauve mission, i came across some furry helpful info...

cocoa mulch... bad, bad, bad (fatal)

slug and snail bait also bad, bad, bad (tremors and seizures) you gotta use nontoxic gardening products or use bits of cardboard as a great snail trap - the slugs and snails gather under it for a party then you just pluck them off into a container and pour boiling water on them (fatal) don't forget to shove them back into the garden cos they are a great compost activator...

if your pet is a doofus and has eaten a plant that may be toxic, don’t waste any time trying to induce vomiting... ring mr vetty immediately!

and finally an interesting article on mauve... seems mauve is coming back... mauve is the past; the future is mauve.

the next colour for blue's true colour challenge is gonna be gold...ooh that could get me going!

a rainbow thursday

it was a week ago today that we lost bodie cat... : (

and then yesterday our friends laura and lloyd lost pixie... : (

and we need to confess that we were probably not even going to post today... it just seemed too hard. until we saw blue's beautiful tribute to bodie and we realised we just need to carry on.

So, in honour of bodie and pixie we present to you a series of rainbow park benches - why on earth? you see... these are just the kind of benches we imagine bodie and pixie sitting on whilst having a right old natter as they pass away the time at rainbow bridge...

and then something odd happened... while we were 'lifting' pics of rainbow benches we came across this image...

for some reason we hovered over it in disbelief... yes there does seem to be an uncanny resemblance... is this a photo of bodie and pixie on a park bench? or is that just too wierd? grief does seem to do strange things to the mind.

next week is going to be mauve...

oh and blue... we didn't think you would mind us stealing your beautiful pic of bodie for our blog... you are amazing and we thank you for the silent prod!
to all the unknown photographers of the park benches... we thank you for allowing us to create this visual memory of the two old girls in another place...

a bit lost and lonely

as you can see poor old doyle is still a bit out of sorts. we are convinced he is really missing bodie and we won't lie, it has been an awful lot harder than we thought it would be.

we've been really touched with all the kind words from so many of you, thank you!! it has helped, really helped... A LOT. new doggie bloggers Lord Duncan of McDuff and Sally Ann Canis even presented us with this friendship award...

nice...

the buddy thing got us thinking... we are wondering if we should we get doyle a new feline friend... mmmmm, hmmmm... would it end in tears... a scratched nose or even worse... 'dog' forbid!

if you wanna have a say, go for it! there is a poll on the right and any tips, suggestions etc will also be most welcomed in your comments. oh and before we start getting the flood of 'get a pup'... we are saying yes that is most definately being considered as well. we are just hoping a kitten will help to take away the wierd 'lonely' house feel that we are all feeling when we get home as well we hope the wee critter will provide doyle with some companionship on the days he is home alone.

last but most certainly not least - please spare a thought for our friend's cat, pixie. like bodie, pixie is starting to feel her age too... we want to wish pixie strong pawsitive vibe... she may be 24 but she's a true survivivor for sure!

loves b, c & d xxx
